PNWRC 2012

The University of Washington and Seattle U are joining forces to host the 2012 PNWRC.  Does anybody have a link to a schedule?  I'm considering going to this and covering it officially.

Atta Boy Jeff Spiro...

Many Thanks!

I just want to say thanks to everybody who has contributed thus far.  As part of what I call "The Old Guard", it is refreshing to see the next generation embrace technology and awareness like this blog.  Technology sparked a revolution in Egypt, and I think it has helped raise the consciousness of the NSSBC.  I may snark back or take a few jabs now and then, but don't think for a second that I haven't been there...good OR bad, I've been a part of teams that got dinged at Regionals by a dimensional violation or by a huge construction blunder, and I've been part of an effort that produced a National Championship...it's a roller coaster, especially for you newbies, so keep up the good work, and remember that it's all worth it.  Learn as much as you can...then just let your work ethic take over.

Cheers!

In the steel bridge competition, WKU finished fourth overall behind Akron, Youngstown State and Louisville. The team constructed the bridge in the fastest amount of time of any school at the competition and with no construction errors.  In addition, the bridge was the lightest bridge at the competition.

Tidbit on Louisiana Tech

The Louisiana Tech steel bridge team, who also participated in the competition, won first place in the Economy category, second place in Display, and third place in Construction Speed.

Virginia Tech Video

I would love to see UC Davis do something like this...however, it would only take money away from the University...and it's not really research...so it's obviously useless. lol, I keed, I keed

FAST FORWARD TO 44:00 TO SEE THE HOKIE SBT

Priceless

From MST...for most Bridges this Regional Season...there is only one moment of anxiety...the lateral load test.  Pass it and you get the ticket to the Big Show...let it slide a 1/16th too far, and it's all for naught...so double secure that lateral load, and take your chances at Clemson.

The Steel Bridge team, whose members were enkindled for this year’s competition, expects to perform much better than last year, said team member Christopher Bolich. The competition is categorized and evaluated in 3 parts; how much a bridge sags when encumbered with 250 pounds; how much it bends when folded; and its build-time being only able to carry one piece at a time.“Already our (Steel Bridge) weight is down from last year,” Bolich, “and building time is around what it was last year.“The bridge gets taken apart every day, and we had built that this morning,” Bolich pointed across the banquet hall and behind a glass, where a miniature steel bridge lay.
